Loho Learning

Overview

Role: Sole Developer
Timeline: Initial MVP in 1 month
Tech Stack: MERN Stack (v1), Golang & PostgreSQL (v2), React Native, Offline Storage

Loho Learning is an inclusive, offline-first e-learning platform developed to provide students with centralized access to digital academic content from various publishers. It was designed to close the digital divide in education by making curriculum-based learning materials accessible in both urban and remote areas.

Key Features

    • Multi-Publisher Library: A unified content hub featuring books, exams, and study materials across different educational providers.

    • Offline-First Architecture: Optimized for low-connectivity environments using smart caching and on-demand sync.

    • User Role Management: Structured access for students, teachers, and administrators.

    • Cross-Platform Delivery: Web platform and React Native mobile app with consistent UX.

My Contribution

      • Designed and built the initial MVP independently in under 30 days.

      • Upgraded the platform in v2 using Golang and PostgreSQL, introducing modular APIs and performance improvements.

      • Developed the mobile app with offline learning capabilities for underserved regions.

      • Led all phases of development: architecture, UI/UX design, backend engineering, and deployment.

Integrated Content Partners

Loho Learning successfully aggregated and presented learning materials from:

Sprix Learning
Tofas Calculation & Programming
Mzizi Africa
Qureo
Opiq
Dals Learning
Angani
Mawingu
Esoma Kids
Elimu World

This integration allowed students to seamlessly browse, access, and consume structured content across different formats and publishers, all under one unified user experience.

Uganda Expansion (2025)

        • Rolled out a localized Uganda version with country-specific curriculum support.

        • Implemented a multi-tenant backend to support independent data pipelines and content delivery per region.

        • Engaged local partners to onboard educational materials and distribute the platform nationally.

Challenge & Resolution

Challenge:
Ensuring reliable offline access to heavy academic content in low-resource settings.

Resolution:
Engineered a lightweight offline system with selective content sync, dynamic compression, and user-based caching — enabling fast, dependable offline access without sacrificing usability.

Outcome

    • Achieved over 10,000+ downloads on Google Play.

    • Recognized by the Zero Project 2025 for innovation in accessible education.

    • Successfully deployed in both Kenya and Uganda, with growing adoption in schools and learning programs.
